Days and Nights among the Tribes of Central India is the author, Prosenjit Dasgupta’s engaging travelogue on his visits to the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh and Ganjam district of Odisha, where he observed the traditional life and culture of different tribes residing there. Dasgupta was inspired by Dr. Verrier Elwin’s pioneering work with the Muria tribe in Bastar and the Saora in Ganjam during the 1940s/50s. Through his ethnographic documentation interwoven with Elwin’s and Grigson’s notes, Dasgupta provides an interesting peek into the life and culture of these tribes in transition. This book is a must-read for those seeking to appreciate the vivacity of life of these tribes that are currently in the process of rapidly fading out.
