Description

Gadagada gudugudu . . . the marble rolls from one child’s hand to another in exchange each time for something exciting. The story moves in a straightforward childlike way as, one after the other, it reintroduces simple street games endlessly popular with children. Trundling alongside is the rhythmic refrain that fascinatingly echoes the circular movement of the marble.

About the Contributors

Jeeva started telling stories first to the toddlers as a teacher for 12 long years. She moved on to teach French for the high schoolers using her creative teaching techniques. Destiny turned to her favour when she met her schoolmate Radhika Menon, M.D.; Tulika publishers, in connection with her alma mater and presto she turned to marketing children’s books. This led her to translate Cathy Spagnoli’s Priya’s Day. Jeeva’s storytelling style leaves her audience spell-bound. She believes that she herself is the best prop for her storytelling. Her repertoire of stories includes a wide range of Indian and Asian folk-tales, European tales, Family stories, True-life incidents, Cross-culture and modern Stories.

Jeyanthi Manokaran started her career in advertising, and moved on to work in edutainment. She has been with corporate and voluntary organizations. Jeyanthi’s picture books for kids are popular. She won a UNESCO Award for illustrating and a Highlights Scholarship for writing. In Gadagada Gudugudu, her first with Tulika, the delightful pictures capture the life and laughter of children as they play on the streets.
