Why the Whales Came tells the story of 10-year old Gracie Jenkins who lives in Bryher, one of the Isle of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall.
She and Daniel have been warned to stay away from the mad Birman, but a message in the sand tells them the Birdman is not what he seems.
Then they go out on a terrifying adventure to a Cove near the Birdman’s cottage and get stranded on Samson Island. Once here they must decide whether the story told by the Birdman that the Island is cursed is true or not….
