The tremendous changes that Goa witnessed in the second half of the twentieth century in the political, educational, social, and cultural fields, are depicted through the life of the protagonist Angela, alias Anjali, alias Anjinha, and also through other characters in the novel. The reader gets glimpses of the then Goan community, and of the crucial issue of its identity. While the novel raises questions on the question of identity, it does not draw any conclusions, urging the reader to think on.
