About the Contributors
The author grew up in Basel and left school at the age of 14 to become a manual labourer. He spent much of the Second World War in prison and labour camps, an experience that greatly influenced his writing. He remained an outsider to the literary world and lived for many years in poverty.
The translator is also an author and poet. As a translator she works in German, Polish, Russian and English. SHe is the author of the novels Summer Resort (2011), River (2014) and Grove (2020). She has translated many Polish Authors into German, including Alexander Wat, Olga Tokarczuk and Magdalena Tulli.
