LA31 Landscape Urbanism
With the present thrust of global world on values of sustainability and environment, green rating systems and carbon credits, Landscape Urbanism may be one of the saviours of the developing nations in the 21st century. In India, it will have more issues to address besides its core values of addressing a city as process. Its seamless collaborative approach with other responsible forces of city planning will hold the key to its success in the future times. Various authors have tried to dialogue and debate it as a discipline, about its potentials and limitations and its relevance in Indian context.

From government departments, banks and single storey institutes of mid-twentieth century to contemporary Information Technology Parks, the idea of an office work place has undergone a sea change. Brand name, availability of budgets and space, awareness of the importance of a functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment are some of the reasons for newer work places in India being designed in several imaginative ways. The issue features a few of the many such examples of works across the country. The section on Landscape in Indian Literature, explores examples of relationships that humans shared with nature during ancient times as recorded and documented in our literary sources.

The issue introduces ‘Green Circus’, a new comic feature is about the lives of two landscape architects Hari and Berry.
LA34 The way We Work
The Journal conducted a nationwide survey of landscape professionals, though not exhaustive in terms of number of practices, across India in six weeks [March–April]. It was an opportunity for us to establish a dialogue with practitioners and academicians on several interesting issues of concern and thinking about the profession. Such an exercise isn’t possible in the short time-frame of a professional conference or seminar. The survey is a first ever exercise of such kind in India and we plan to carry it out from time to time to check and explore the status of the profession in the future.
