LA 36 About Maps
For a common man, maps can be useful as guide tools for knowing the neighborhood, localities, towns, cities and regions, to know the place where we live, work and play. They can depict the landmarks, transportation networks, heritage structures, parks and playgrounds; various land uses and hence can be guide and orientation tools for the city residents and tourists. For development agencies, they can serve the purpose of accumulating data of the city in terms of its natural features (geological formations, vegetation, and hydrology), population density, land uses, transport routes, which can be used for making vision plans of the cities and places. Spatial design professionals can play a very active role in this scenario by becoming providers and facilitators rather than only users.

It also presents the restoration of a basalt quarry in the Western Ghats, where from the start, revitalizing the ecological health of the site was the part of the main design brief. A special feature on Oikos, a partnership firm engaged in a variety of interesting projects in the region. It is a pleasure to share their views about various facets of their practice and the profession.
