Description

Angela Trindade: A Trinity of Light, Colour and Emotion by Fatima da Silva Gracias is a pictorial biography of the life and works of Bombay-born Goan artist, Angela Trindade, who came from a family of artists. She was daughter of António Xavier de Trindade (AX Trindade), known as the Rembrandt of the East.

Angela Trindade was recognized as one of India’s foremost women artists, one of the first who took up painting as a profession. She painted in various styles and evolved a style of her own which she named Trindadism (Trinity style). In this work, the author charts the brilliant career of the artist as she traces the influences that shaped her. Angela Trindade belonged to a period of transition in Indian history, the end of the British rule and the first decades of independent India. She was internationally known for her Indian-style Christian paintings. The book also glances at Trindade’s contemporaries and the art scene in India during her times. Trindade spent the last fifteen years of her life in the USA, where she tried her hand at Tantric Art and Abstract Expressionism.
