In 1957, two years after the State Bank of India was formed, Mr. P G Kakodkhar joined as a Probationery Officer. Forty years later he retired as Chairman of the bank. He had a long eventful career. Very few people make it to the top of the career pyramid. He witnessed the transformation of this institution once serving the interests of the erstwhile British colonial regime into one that now served the as a powerful instrument of social and economic change independent India.
My 40 Years with SBI is both his personal story and the story of a Bank which has had to continuously reorient and reinvent itself to meet the new demands made of it.
