About the Author
The author joined the Herald (Goa) at the age of 19, wrote for Sunday Mid-Day (Bombay), covered Goa for Deccan Herald (Bangalore) and then wrote for the Indo-Asian News Service. He bagged scholarships in Germany (West Berlin) and Sweden (Kalmar), topping the former's 1990 G57 batch. Noronha has an M.A. degree and was awarded fellowships from Sarai (New Delhi) and Panos (South Asia). He is an active photographer, and is also into editing and book publishing. His pro-blogging stints have taken him to Africa (Uganda), Malaysia (Penang), Australia (Sydney) and Bangladesh (Dhaka). He is an admin team member of Goanet, an international online venture, and co-founder of BytesForAll, a South Asian initiative awarded with a 2001 Prix Ars Electronica award (Austria). He also runs the Docuwallahs2 documentary film network. His by-line has appeared in many publications -- including The Economic Times, The Financial Express, AP (Photos), Dawn and Spider internet mag (Karachi), BBC website and Outlook. He has been India correspondent for Radio World International (US) and Environment News Service (US). Noronha has co-edited a book on environmental journalism in South Asia (The Green Pen, Sage-India). His interests in Free Software took him to icy Finland to join a study on FOSS in the 'developing' countries (2003-04). Among other things, he has been a member of the panel deciding on the global FSF Award for the Advancement of Free Software and The Manthan-AIF Award 2006 (New Delhi).
