This book is a study of food practices conducted in four select Goan villages, two each from the Old Conquests and the New Conquests, with intensive field work. The study attempts to trace the socio-cultural relationship of food within the two major religious communities of Goa. In the process, the study compares food consumption patterns between the two communities, and the societal norms that govern food preparation and consumption.
The book also covers quotidian Goan life which includes the worship of local spirits and ancestors, and other similar cultural and ritualistic practices among members of these communities.

About the Author
Biula V. Cruz e Pereira is Associate Professor and Head of Department of Sociology at Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar, Goa. She has a PhD. in Sociology, and has presented research papers at several national and state-level seminars and conferences. She was previously a member of the Academic Council (2000-2002) and the University Court (2002-2004) of the Goa University. Biula has served as counsellor for the IGNOU MA programme at the Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar and the Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim. She was also visiting faculty at the Institute of Nursing Education (INE), Bambolim, Goa. She is the author of One for the Road (2015).
