This book by Selma Carvalho is a tribute to the Goan community who lived and worked through many generations in British East Africa.

Closely allied with the British Civil Services, Goans were predominant in the provincial administration. Their earlier role as fearless, pioneering entrepreneurs is now almost completely forgotten, especially the remarkable legacy they left in the places they inhabited – from the island of Zanzibar to the townships of Nairobi, Kampala and Dar es Salaam. This book hopes to reclaim these aspects of Goan history, which have since been obscured in time.
