The picture-postcard image of Goa promoted through glistening holiday flyers is too fantastic to be true. Of course this tiny paradise, the Pearl of the East and the Darling of the West, has always fascinated the touring people across the globe with its natural charm, scenic splendour, architectural heritage, and distinctive cultural ambiance. The awesome grandeur of Goa’s ancient heritage, the overwhelming beauty of its coastline, the quiet charm of its countryside, the fascinating feel of its culture and the enthralling allure of its legendary night life will sure amaze, astound, and delight tourists for a long time. But deep beneath that peace haven there is a storm brewing that is appalling and threatens to blur the image beyond recognition. Blame it on unplanned, unbridled growth of the tourism industry in the state or its poor policing and corrupt administration, Goa is indeed in a scary spin.

The shady and perilous dark side — crime, sex, perversion, and the general degradation in its social and cultural structure — has meant that a state which was once caricatured as a happy-go-lucky land of fish, feni and football is now seen as home to drug, land and flesh trade mafias.

Recent media-tags for Goa like “crime capital of India” “rape capital” may be exaggerated but the element of truth in it, however miniscule, cannot be ignored and swept under the carpet as our politicians have done all along even as patently criminal elements continue to make merry with great impunity to the laws of the land. What is even more dangerous is the resigned attitude among many Goans that says “it’s all inevitable”.

Sinful Goa: Paradise in Peril takes a caustic and unabashed look at the hideous side of Goa that presents a scary picture to a discerning mind. Itis a Satirical commentary on the contemporary issues affecting Goa and Goans. It is an attempt to make people look deeper into the obvious and to explore new depths in understanding the rape of Goa. It also explores the way of life of the Goans with all its foils, foibles and idiosyncrasies.

Goa is fast losing its sheen as a beautiful, leisurely, and multicultural land. And that frightening reality is spreading its tentacles slowly but surely and bringing with it decay and despair not development and progress.
