In the Goa of 1953, a band was set up in memory of a musical genius. Some three dozen musicians participated in its various avatars. A legend and his brother also joined in some shows. The band went on to set up a volleyball team. The Goa chapter of the Jazz-centric Friends of Music USA was set up by one of its members. Another became a freedom fighter, a third did pioneering work in the Khell-Tiatr. This unusually charming story is typical of many of the Goan bands of the yesteryears and how they built themselves up, despite their struggles at the time. Most of the other stories have been forgotten. But a rare diary preserved this story. This book is one more piece in the attempt to give Goan music the recognition it so richly deserves.

About the Author
Melvyn Savio Misquita is from Aldona. With two MA degrees in Philosophy and Sociology, he has been a journalist with three prominent Goan newspapers over the past Quarter century. He won an award for investigative reporting. A musician himself, he has researched The Sound of Goa's Konkani Christian Music, the story of the popular Konkani hymn book, Gaionancho Jhelo, used by Goan Catholics for nearly six decades now. His other research traced the story of the Goan survivors and victims aboard the SS Britannia, a British ship sunk by the Germans during World War If. The idea of the book grew out of posts on a social media chat group for musicians.
