Description
This book is based on a thesis that Gerald Pereira has submitted for his M A degree at the Bombay University. He was awarded the concerned degree in 1965.
An Outline of Pre-Portuguese Goa is of significance for many reasons, Goa today is trying to discover herself afresh; and it is necessary for us to know that our personality is not a product merely of the Portuguese association with us of the last four hundred years. The Satavahanas, the Silaharas and the Kadambas in one period and the Vijayanagar rulers, the Bahamanis and the Adilshahas in another, have also contributed substantially to the rich and colourful Goa that we have today. The churches and the influence of the Latin Culture seen in the attitudes, customs and structures around us today, tell us only one part of her story. The temples, the Brahmapuris, the Agraharas, the Communidades and the all-pervading Goan love for the Arts and the Muses also tell us a very compelling story of another cultural heritage of this simple, youthful land of ours.
