About the Author
Hailing from Saligão where he received his early education, Fr. Nascimento J. Mascarenhas joined the Minor Seminary of Our Lady (Saligão-Pilerne) in 1956-57 and graduated in the Humanities. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Patriarchal seminary (Rachol, Goa) and was ordained priest on April 26, 1970. He completed Pastoral Theology at the St. Pius X Pastoral Institute at Old Goa.
In his priestly ministry, Fr. Mascarenhas was Curate at Panjim and Guirim, Chaplain at Sucaldem (Chinchinim) and Porvorim Baixo, and Vicar at Veroda, Mormugão Harbour, Penha de França and Rachol. Owing to indifferent health, he served on the staff at Moira, Loutolim, Mapuça, Vasco da Gama, the Convent of St. Francis Xavier at Santo Estevam and the Holy Spirit Church in Margão, where he presently serves.
A name familiar to readers of the Diocesan bulletin Renovacão and other Church periodicals, Fr. Mascarenhas’ abiding passion for Goa's history, especially Church history, led him to author half a dozen books. His love for his home village of Saligão led him to contribute copiously-te the Saligão-Net mailing list and the Saligão Serenade.com website, which led to the genesis of this book.
