Luis de Menezes Bragança was a man of illustrious origin and an intellectual giant. Through the 0 Heraldo, 0 Debate which he had founded, Pracasha and other newspapers of the day, he disseminated contemporary thought of republicanism and democracy, in keeping with the advancement of ideas of the times. He condemned casteism, lethargy in public administration, upheld the importance of education and the use of Konkani at the primary level. He questioned the Acto Colonial that had reduced the people of Goa to the level of second class citizens. He was undoubtedly a prolific writer and an accomplished journalist.

Luis de Menezes Braganca: A Goan Thinker and Visionary came into existence because the Insitute Menezes Braganza invited Edwad de Lima to speak on Menezes Bragança on the 138th Anniversary of the Institute on 24th November, 2009. At the end of the programme it was suggested that it would be befitting to have a book on Menezes Bragança.
