This book also discusses the sad life of Rama Sinai Kamati, whose family originally hailed from Marcaim (Ponda), Goa. He served as escrivão to the Portuguese in Bombaim and, because he was the knowledgeable administrator and competent commander of native troops, his services were retained by the East India Company when Bombaim was ceded to England.

The author has presented in chronological order, the pre-Portuguese, Portuguese and a brief early post-Portuguese history of the island of Bombay and the Province of the North, from the cession of Bombay to the English in 1665, and upto the year 1886.

Luís de Assis Correia is the author of the well-received Goa Through the Mists of History and Portuguese India: Mumbai-Chaul-Vasai 1498-1739. The first looks at the evolution of Goa from 10000 BCE to 1958 CE. The second takes a wide-angle look at the Portuguese 'Province of the North'.
