Description

The book is based on the Portuguese in India. It highlights how the adventurous sons of Portugal set out to discover a maritime route to India, which was famous for its cities and spices. This volume adds a new dimension to the history of these former Portuguese colonies.

This book also discusses the sad life of Rama Sinai Kamati, whose family originally hailed from Marcaim (Ponda), Goa. He served as escrivão to the Portuguese in Bombaim and, because he was the knowledgeable administrator and competent commander of native troops, his services were retained by the East India Company when Bombaim was ceded to England.

The author has presented in chronological order, the pre-Portuguese, Portuguese and a brief early post-Portuguese history of the island of Bombay and the Province of the North, from the cession of Bombay to the English in 1665, and upto the year 1886.
