About the Contributors

Savio Abreu is the Principal of St. Paul’s High School, Belgavi. He was earlier Assistant Professor of Sociology at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. His research interests are focused on the intersect between sociology and religion, between history and culture.

S. John Britto, a botanist by profession , for Director of the Rapinat Herbarium in St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, and was also the Director of the Anglade Institute of Natural History in Sacred Heart College, Shembaganur. His research activities include Plant Taxonomy of southern peninsular India, biodiversity analysis and Characterization using Remote sensing and GIS, conservation of endangered plants and Environmental awareness programmes.
Robert Danieluk is presently Archivist at the Jesuit Archives (ARSD in Rome. He obtained his PhD at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (Paris). His doctoral thesis was on Jesuit bibliographies, published in the year 2006, under the title: La Bibliotheque de Carlos Sommervogel: le sommet de V’oeuvre bibliographique de la Compagnie de Jesus (1890-1932). In his assignment as Archivist in Rome, he is a highly competent resource guide to scholars visiting the ARSI in search of documents for their projects. In addition, he attends professional Conferences and presents scholarly papers.

Julian Das is a Jesuit of the Calcutta Province who has specialized in communication. He was the editor of the Calcutta Archdiocesan weekly, The Herald, for three years; he was also the Director of Chitrabani, the Jesuit media centre in Kolkata. At present, he is Co-ordinator of Multimedia, at St. Xavier’s College Kolkata.

Bernard D’Sami served as an Associate Professor in History and has been former Head of the Department of History at Loyola College, Chennai. He has guided nine candidates with their PhD thesis. He is the Coordinator of LISSTAR (Loyola Institute of Social Science Training and Research) at Loyola College, Chennai. He has been awarded fellowships at universities abroad to conduct research and participate in programmes. Presently is also a guest faculty at IIT, Madras.

Victor Ferrão is Dean of Philosophy and Professor at Rachol Seminary, Goa. His PhD is from Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth (Pontifical Institute for Philosophy and Religion), Pune. His thesis is from the area of Philosophy of Science. He also utilizes the paradigms of great thinkers like Júrgen Habermas, Michel Foucault, Sigmund Freud and others, to analyze present-day sociopolitical issues.

Antony Paul Gnanasekar recently retired as Professor of history at Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, Madurai. His research has focused comparative studies about the influence of Jesuits and Lutherans on Christian groups in India. Additionally, he has attended national and international conferences and presented his research findings at these meetings.

Job Kozhamthadam is Director, IISR (Indian Institute of Science and Religion) Delhi, and Professor (Emeritus) of Cosmology and Science-Religion Dialogue, Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune. He has published widely in the field of cosmology and has been lecturing extensively in India and abroad. He was president, Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Religion, Pune, 2006-2012.

Lancy Lobo has worked in an Indian Council of Social Science Research Institute, called Centre for Social Studies, at Surat for fifteen years in the capacity of a lecturer, reader, professor and ended up as its Director. After resigning from Directorship, he began the Centre for Culture and Development at Vadodara in 2001, a social research centre.

Sunny Jose Puthenpurayil is a Jesuit of the Kerala Province. Presently he is the Research Director at Arnos Padiri Academy, Velur, Thrissur, Kerala. He earned his PhD in History from the University of Kerala. He recently retired as Principal from St. Xavier’s College, Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram. His research is focused on tribal and Dalit populations and the impact of modernization on them.

William Robins is a Canadian Jesuit and has been an educationist all his life. His teaching career has spanned years of service in Bhutan and Nepal, where he taught Science. He is also a committed social worker and has served as the Director of St. Xavier’s Social Service Center. At present, he teaches Science at St. Xavier’s School, Kathmandu, Nepal. As Jesuit Superior and Formator, he has worked extensively with Jesuits of the Nepal Region.

Vincent Sekhar presently teaches at Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He has been Director and Dean of Research, Institute of Dialogue with Cultures and Religions (IDCR) at Loyola College, Chennai. He also serves as secretary for inter-religious dialogue for Jesuit Conference of South Asia. His doctorate is from the University of Madras on the subject of Jain religion and philosophy. He frequently addresses national and international meetings in order to share with others the South Asian Jesuit vision for dialogue with Religions and Cultures.

Agapit Tirkey is Director of the Tribal Research and Documentation Centre at Jeevan Vikas Maitree. He is visiting lecturer on Tribal Culture and Religion, and Tribal Movements at St. Albert’s College and Regional Theological Centre, Ranchi. He heads the Dialogue Commission of the Jesuit Province of Madhya Pradesh.

Keith D’Souza is presently the Rector of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai; additionally, he teaches Philosophy and Religious Studies at St. Pius X College, Mumbai. He did his doctoral studies at Marquette University in Wisconsin, USA, with a specialization in philosophical hermeneutics.

Alexius Ekka serves as Director of Xavier Institute of Development Action and Studies (XIDAS) in Jabalpur. He earlier headed the Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), in Ranchi, since 2009. He did his MPhil from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai in 1993 and his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, in 1998.
