Laxmanrao Sardessai (1904-1986) was a distinguished writer in Konkam and Marthi. He wrote some articles and few poems in Portuguese as well. Besides that he was an accomplished translator and a literary critic. Sardesai began writing Konkani literature very late so his body of work in Marathi is much most significant. He wrote around 700 short stories in Marathi.

This monograph draws in brief the graph of Laxman Sardessai’s life, personality and his invaluable contribution to Indian literature through Konkani, his mother tongue, and also through Marathi and Portuguese.

Goa remained Sardessai’s permanent source of inspiration. In the western as well as in the Indian context it can be said that Goa meant to Sardessai what Wessex meant to Thomas Hardy and Malgudi to R.K. Narayan.
