Abolim: The Flower Songs, Folk Tales and Legends of Goa by Lucio Rodrigues traces Goa’s roots through its song and legend. This book does justice in giving a comprehensive overview of some of the most emotive examples from these fields. Abolim attempts to share with the world an understanding of Goa’s song of love, the Mando, its song of joy, the Durpod, and the songs of the dancing girl, the Dakni. Writing in this volume spans many decades from the last century, in a way that ensures it doesn’t get forgotten. In the second part of the book, popular academic, the late Prof Lucio Rodrigues introduces us to charming tales and legends that take us back to a simpler Goa. To a world of sons-in-law and lawyers, Brahmins and old women, villages like Moira and Guirim/Sangolda, and more. Yours to enjoy!
