This book covers the authors deep research into the religious activities of the Catholic Orders in Goa in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries which ushered in and established the Catholic Faith in the region, on the ashes perhaps of an earlier implantation of it that had run to seed and virtually vanished by the time of their arrival in the region.
This book seeks to identify the precise role played and activities carried out by the Catholic Religious Orders at that time as well as to know of the possibility of worthwhile work being done by Orders apart from the Jesuits.

About the Author
The author was born in Goa in 1943. He was educated in the Portuguese Lyceum and is a B.A. in English Literature, Psychology-Sociology, M.A. & Ph.D in Sociology; with courses in Advanced Management, Book Publishing & Bharatiya Vidya Visharad (Indology). Selected in IAS exams, 1969 and alloted an option, to IRC-Cus. & C. Excise; served in the higher echelons of Civil Service in various parts of India including Delhi.
He has also been selected as full Professor of Konkani language in the then new Goa University.
His books include among others Pre-16th Century Konkani Ramayana(1996), Village Goa - A study of Goan social structure & change (1987,2nd Ed. 1996) and Goa - the land & people (2003) as well as several translations.
He is a life member of the Author's Guild of India; The Poetry Society (India), Indian Sociological Society; Indian Institute of Public Administration and the Indian Society of Commonwealth Studies.
